This Swiss Model 1914 saw back bayonet was made for use with the M1911 Schmidt-Rubin carbine. This bayonet was issued to select troops only. The Model 1914 differs from earlier saw-tooth models by the addition of a bulge at the end of the blade. The blade also has a fuller on only one side.
The 480mm blade is in excellent condition, as issued and is marked on the ricasso with the makers’ mark, ELSENER SCHWYZ. The saw teeth are unused and are extremely sharp.
The wooden scales are in excellent condition as are the polished steel pommel and cross piece. The cross piece is stamped with the serial number of the carbine with which it was issued, 646454. The press-stud locking mechanism works perfectly.
The bayonet is complete with its Mk1 leather scabbard with steel mounts. Later issued examples have a steel scabbard. The scabbard is in excellent condition. The scabbard ball finial is marked with the Swiss cross. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
This is a scarce and sought-after Swiss pioneer bayonet in fantastic condition.
