This British WW1 Pattern 1907 bayonet was made in 1918 by Sanderson & Newbould of Sheffield, England.
The 432mm single-edged blade has a long narrow fuller and rounded spine. The edge was factory sharpened, which was a war-time requirement. The blade is in good condition with a faint, pale speckled patina. The ricasso is marked with a faint George V crown over the pattern date 1907 and the date of manufacture 4 ’18 below which is faintly stamped Sanderson.
The obverse ricasso bears a bend test stamp, War Department arrow and four Enfield inspection and acceptance/reissue stamps. There is also an additional date stamp for 1926. Repeated polishing has resulted in the ricasso stamps becoming faint.
The crosspiece, muzzle ring and pommel are polished bright and are in good condition. The press-stud catch is in good working order. The grip scales are in good condition.
The bayonet is complete with its leather scabbard with a teardrop frog stud. The scabbard is in very good condition. The steel locket and the chape retain their blueing with some small patches of corrosion. The stitching is intact and strong and the bayonet sheathes smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
This is a good example of a Sanderson made P1907 bayonet.
