This rare Syrian neck dagger dates to the mid 20th Century.
The 10cm double edged steel blade has two narrow fullers on both sides with engraving between them.
The white metal hilt is set with horn grip scales and has a wonderful pale yellow/green age patina due to the high copper content of the metal. The pommel and bolster are decorated with a vine-like pattern.
The white metal sheath is intricately engraved with a Persian warrior in period costume surrounded by foliate engraving. The lower portion of the sheath has a deeply incised cross-hatch pattern.
The sheath has eye loops on either side at the top through which a cord would have been strung allowing for the knife to be worn around the neck.
