This is an excellent Nepalese Gurkha fighting kukri as carried by the Nepalese Army and Gurkhas within the British Army.

The 315mm blade has an 8mm thick, ridged spine narrowing gradually to the point and is 58mm wide at the belly. A short, deep fuller runs below the spine within a wider, shallow fuller. The double hollow grind gives the blade a slight medial ridge. The blade has a brass inlay that could be a maker’s mark or maybe a spiritual symbol given its similarity to a cows’ hoof. The blade is in excellent condition and sharp.

The Cho at the base of the blade is believed to be a symbolic representation of a cows’ foot, a sacred animal to all Hindus. The Cho serves to stop blood, sap or other fluids from running onto the handle and making it slippery.

The hardwood grip is in good condition and is stamped with a Broad Arrow, crowned inspection mark and the date 1915. The tang is peened through the steel butt plate of the flared pommel. The hilt has carved ridges and flares to a broad oval at the base allowing the user a very good grip.

The wooden, leather covered scabbard incorporates a military frog. The rear of the scabbard holds a Karda and Chakmak.

This is a very nice and good quality WW1 Nepalese Gurkha fighting Kukri.
