Scarce WW1 Indian 1907 pattern bayonet made by the Rifle Factory Ishapore, India in January, 1917. The Indian pattern 1907 bayonet is essentially the same as the British pattern, only the markings differ.

The 432mm, single edged blade has a long narrow fuller and rounded spine. The edge was armoury sharpened and is nick free. The blade is in excellent condition and retains its original blued finish with minimal scabbard wear.

The ricasso is marked with the crowned cypher of King George V, the cypher being the Indian version, GRI (Georgius Rex Imperator) over the pattern date 1907 and the date of manufacture 1 ‘17 below which is stamped “RFI.” The obverse ricasso bears the Indian Government arrow over I, bend test stamp and three Indian Government ownership & inspection stamps.

The crosspiece retains its original blueing, as does the steel pommel. There is some mild wear. The pommel is stamped with the number 357. The wooden grip scales are in good condition with service related marks and dings. The scales are held firmly in place by the two original screws. The push button locking mechanism is in good condition and the action is crisp.

The bayonet is complete with its leather scabbard with a teardrop stud. The scabbard is in very good condition with its original blued finish to the locket and chape. The leather and stitching are strong. The steel locket and chape bear Indian manufacture stamps.

This is an excellent example of the iconic and scarce World War One, Ishapore Pattern P1907 bayonet.
