This Indian No.1 Mk III* pattern bayonet was made at the Rifle Factory Ishapore in March 1945.

The 304mm single-edged blade has a rounded spine and upper false edge. The un-fullered blade terminates in an asymmetrical spear point. The blade is in good condition with its original blued finish and factory edge. There is some mild wear to the blueing.

The ricasso is stamped with the Royal cypher of King George VI, Emperor of India, a crowned G.R.I, over the pattern designation. The manufacture date of ‘3 ’45 (March 1945) is stamped above the maker’s mark. R. F. I. The obverse ricasso bears three inspection/acceptance stamps.

The cross-piece, muzzle ring and distinctive squared pommel are in excellent condition and retain their original blued finish. The locking catch is in crisp working order. The wooden grip scales are in very good condition with some age related marks and colouration. The scales are held firmly in place with two blued screws.

The bayonet is complete with its shortened No.1 leather scabbard with blued steel locket and chape. The scabbard is in good condition. The leather is strong and the stitching is intact. The steel locket and chape retain most of their original blued finish. The chape has some mild pitting. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
