Scarce Indian 1907 pattern bayonet made by the Rifle Factory Ishapore, India in February, 1920. The Indian pattern 1907 bayonet is essentially the same as the British pattern, only the markings differ.

The 432mm, single edged blade has a long narrow fuller and rounded spine. The edge was armoury sharpened and is nick free. The blade is in excellent condition.

The ricasso is marked with the crowned cypher of King George V, the cypher being the Indian version, GRI (Georgius Rex Imperator) over the pattern date 1907 and the date of manufacture 2 ‘20 below which is stamped “RFI.” The obverse ricasso bears the Indian Government arrow over I, bend test stamp and an Indian Government ownership stamp.

The crosspiece retains its original polished finish, as does the steel pommel. The pommel is stamped with the worn unit marking of what I think is F company, 2nd Battalion Mounted Infantry. Weapon number 12. The wooden grip scales are in good condition with minor service-related marks and dings. The scales are held firmly in place by the two original screws. The push button locking mechanism is in good condition and the action is crisp.

The bayonet is complete with its leather scabbard with brass locket and chape. The scabbard is in very good condition. The throat of the locket bears an Indian makers’ mark. The leather and stitching are strong. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.

This is an excellent example of the scarce Ishapore Pattern P1907 bayonet.
