German WW2 M1884/98 MkIII Bayonet
This example was made in 1938 by W. K. C. (Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie) of Solingen.
The 252mm single edged blade has a deep single fuller on both sides and is in excellent condition retaining its original blued finish. There are some marks and mottling to the finish. The blade is stamped on the spine with the date mark “38” for 1938. The blade is marked on the ricasso with the maker’s trademark, W.K.C. After 1940, a three digit dispersal code was assigned to makers. The obverse ricasso bears the stamp “7461” over C.
The steel pommel bears two inspection stamps “WaA253” and “aA255” both beneath the German eagle. The working press stud bears the marking “WaA253.”
The Bakelite grip scales are in excellent condition.
The blued steel scabbard is in excellent condition. The front of the scabbard is marked above the frog stud with the number 7461 over C. The back is marked at the top with the maker’s mark, W.K.C and the date 1938.
This is a clean example of the famous German WW2 bayonet with matching serial numbers.
