The 368mm single edged blade has a broad single fuller on both sides, below a flat spine with false upper edge. The blade flares before tapering to a spear point. The edge has been factory sharpened. The blade is in fair condition with scattered shallow pitting and is bright and free from active rust.

The ricasso is stamped with the worn maker mark, “Schubert und Salzer Maschinenfabrik, Chemnitz.” The S98/05 was the only bayonet produced by this company. It was produced from 1916 to 1917.

The obverse ricasso is maker marked to "Gottlieb Hammesfahr Solingen, Foche." The S98/05 was the first of only two bayonets produced by this company. Gottlieb Hammesfahr produced the S98/05 from 1915 to 1917.

The blade spine is stamped with the crowned W and manufacture date of 1917 above an inspection stamp.

The wooden grip scales are in good condition, with age related marks and patina. The steel crosspiece and pommel are bright and rust free with scattered shallow pitting. The press stud mechanism works perfectly. The steel flash guard has denting towards the rear.

This is a rare, twin maker bayonet from two of the harder to find makers.
