This EB44 is the rarest of the plain bladed S98/05 type Ersatz bayonets from World War 1 with a production date of 1916.
The bayonet is of all steel construction with a 35.8cm blade which has a flat spine with a false edge and a deep single fuller on both sides. The fuller is 19.5cm long. The blade widens slightly from 26mm at the ricasso to 30mm before terminating in a spear point. The blade is in good condition with mild age related tarnish and machining marks.
The spine is stamped with a crowned inspection stamp and the steel hilt which retains approximately 60% of its original feldgrau paint is stamped with the letter “F” on one side and a “D” on the other.
The press stud locking mechanism works perfectly. Total length 48cm.
This is a rare and highly collectable Ersatz bayonet.
