German WW2 M1884/98 Mk III Bayonet
This example was made in 1940 by Mundlos AG of Magdeburg.
The 248mm single edged blade has a deep single fuller on both sides and is in good condition. There are sharpening scratches along its length and the blade is very sharp. The blade is stamped on the spine with the date mark “40” for 1940. The ricasso is marked with the maker’s trademark, Mundlos. The obverse ricasso bears the stamp “152” over “a.”
The steel pommel bears two inspection stamps “WaA243” beneath the German eagle. The working press stud also bears the marking “WaA243,” as does the flash protector on the back of the grip.
The Bakelite grip scales are in excellent condition.
The matching blued steel scabbard is in good condition and is without dents or damage. The front of the scabbard bears a matching number “152” over “a” marked above the frog stud. The back is marked at the top with the maker’s mark, “Mundlos” and the date “40.”.
This is a good, example of the famous German WW2 bayonet with matching numbered scabbard.
