German WW2 K98 Bayonet made in 1938 by Heller with matching scabbard.
The 252mm single edged blade has a deep single fuller on both sides and is in excellent condition retaining its original black finish. There is some scabbard wear to the finish. The blade is marked on the spine with the date ’38 (1938). The ricasso bears the maker’s details, Gebr. Heller and the obverse ricasso is stamped with the number 1130 over the letter b.
The steel pommel retains its original blued finish and is in very good condition. The pommel bears two inspection stamps incorporating the German eagle. The press stud mechanism is also stamped with an inspection mark and is in perfect working order. The flash guard is also stamped. The Bakelite grip scales are in excellent condition.
The matching blued steel scabbard is in good condition with some wear to the original finish. The scabbard is stamped at the throat with the maker’s details and dated 1938. The obverse bears a matching number to the blade, 1130 over b. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
This is an excellent example of a pre-war K98 Mauser bayonet.
