This matched pair of early 19th Century German brass disk guard fencing foils are typical of the late 18th and early 19th Century and were made in Solingen, Germany in the 1830’s. They are scarce.

The 872mm square section tapering blades are in great condition with a wonderful patina. The blades are stamped with a worn maker’s designation, “Solingen.”

The flat, brass disk guards are cast with ridged circles on the facing side. The circles are painted white and red. Much of the original paint remains. There is some small movement in the disk guards.

The leather wrapped grips are in excellent condition and the twin strands of twisted copper wire are intact and tight. The hilts are finished with turned brass urn-like finials through which the tangs are peened.

This is a fine pair of rare, matched early 19th Century foils in excellent condition.
