As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
French Model 1842 Yataghan Sword Bayonet. Chatellerault 1862. #2603008
This French M1842 Yataghan sword bayonet was made at the Chatellerault armoury in 1862. These sword bayonets were used with several variations of French carbine rifle. The M1842 is a formidable bayonet, a far more robust forerunner to the often-encountered M1866 Chassepot bayonet.
The heavy 574mm yataghan blade has a flat, T-section spine above a long, single fuller on each side and tapers to a double-edged spear point. The spine is engraved with the Chatellerault armoury details, pattern designation and the production date of October, 1862. The blade is in excellent condition. The blade was service sharpened.
The ricasso bears the stamp of the Chatellerault armoury director, Guy Durousseau de Fayolle, the letter F within an oval. Guy Durousseau de Fayolle was Director of the armoury from September 1862. The second stamp is that of the armouries’ Reviseurs, Francois Antoine Schutz, an oval containing a star above the letter S. Schutz was a Chatellerault Reviseurs from July 1853.
The steel crosspiece has a rear facing quillon and a coxcomb on the muzzle ring. The steel bears a serial number, 186.
The ribbed brass grip is in excellent condition and the internal spring catch is in good working order. The blade is firm in the hilt.
The bayonet is complete with its rolled steel scabbard. The scabbard is in good condition and is marked on the ball finial and at the throat. The blade sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
This is an increasingly hard to find French M1842 yataghan sword bayonet in very good condition.
