As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
French M1886 Lebel Bayonet. 1916. Matching Numbers. #2608018
This is a great example of a 1916 production M1886 bayonet for use with the 8mm Lebel rifle. This bayonet was the first to use a cruciform (epee-like) blade and had a long service record, from 1886 through to the end of WW1. The Lebel bayonet was affectionately known as “Rosalie” by the troops who carried it.
The M1886 was originally made with a nickel-silver alloy grip but this was phased out in 1916 as nickel was in short supply and required for the war effort. After 1916 the grips were made of brass and the bayonet was manufactured without the hooked quillon. The Lebel epee bayonet with its distinctive cruciform blade was the French mainstay during WWI.
The 522mm distinctive cruciform blade is full length and has a rounded needle point. Later blades were often shortened. The blade is in excellent condition and is stamped with two inspection poincon.
The polished steel muzzle ring and block are in excellent condition. The raised press-stud with knurled top is in excellent working order. The bottom of the block is stamped with the serial number 19874. The brass grip indicates that this bayonet was made around 1916 for service in WW1.
The bayonet is complete with its matching numbered steel scabbard. The scabbard is in very good condition. The scabbard retains its original finish and bears inspection stamps and the matching serial number, 19874. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly in the scabbard.
This is an excellent matching numbered example of the iconic French WW1 Lebel bayonet.
