Rare British WW2 Sten Machine Carbine Bayonet Mk I. This pattern spike bayonet was made between December 1942 and December 1943 for use exclusively with the Sten Mk II machine carbine. The famous “Sten Gun” of World War Two.
The 203mm spike is rather crudely welded onto a tubular socket with a top leaf spring that clips into the barrel shroud of the machine carbine. This is a distinctive and rare WW2 production bayonet.
The bayonet is in very good condition with age and use related wear to the blued finish. As with many of this pattern, the bayonet is un-marked. I believe this bayonet to be a genuine example but am selling it as a possible early replica hence the bargain price.
There are modern replicas of this bayonet available, all of which are marked. Other easily spotted differences are the angle and height of the curve in the leaf spring. The replicas all have a higher and more pronounced curve. The welds on the replicas are also often cleaner and better finished than the wartime production originals.
