Iconic British WW1 Pattern 1907 bayonet made in December, 1914 by J. A. Chapman ltd of Sheffield. By the end of World War One, Chapman had produced around 300,000 P1907 bayonets. Compared to the 2,360,000 and 1,600,000 produced Wilkinson and Sanderson, P1907 bayonets made by James A. Chapman Ltd are scarce.

This bayonet is marked to the prestigious line infantry regiment, The Seaforth Highlanders. The Seaforth Highlanders served on the Western Front and fought in the Battles of Ypres, The Somme, Arras and Passchendaele to name but a few.

The 434mm, single edged blade has a long narrow fuller and slightly rounded spine. The edge was service sharpened. The blade is in near mint condition.

The ricasso retains its original blueing and is marked with a crown and GR (Georgius Rex) for King George V, over the pattern date 1907 and the date of manufacture 12 ’14 below which is stamped “J. A. C.”

The obverse ricasso bears the War Department broad arrow, bend test stamp and three Enfield inspection and acceptance stamps.

The crosspiece and muzzle ring retain their original blueing. The pommel is stamped with the unit marking for the 3rd Battalion, The Seaforth Highlanders, weapon number 2397. The wooden grip scales are in excellent condition. The scales are held firmly in place by the two original screws. The push button locking mechanism is in good condition and works well.

The bayonet is complete with its Mk 1 Type II black leather scabbard with a teardrop frog stud. The scabbard is in excellent condition. The stitching is intact and strong. The steel locket and chape retain much of their original finish.

This is an excellent example of a scarce Chapman made P1907 bayonet, unit marked to the Seaforth Highlanders, a prestigious line infantry regiment that distinguished itself on the Western Front during World War One.
