This British P1845/54 infantry officer's sword has an etched, 81.5 cm minimally curved blade. The 1845 pattern Wilkinson blade is single edged and has a flat spine and a broad single fuller on both sides. This blade ends in a spear point. The blade was service sharpened, as were the last 20 cm of the top (false) edge.
The blade is etched on both sides with floral and scrollwork panels and the crowned cypher of Queen Victoria. The blade is in good condition with small patches of mild age related tarnishing. This is a robust fighting sword. The spine is 7 mm thick at the ricasso and is marked with a centre of percussion arrow. The ricasso is 26 mm wide. The ricasso is faintly showing the cutler's name, address, and "Made in London." The obverse ricasso bears a brass proof disk.
The barred gothic guard is the solid 1845/54 pattern and bears the Royal cypher of Queen Victoria above the Flowers of Union, the rose, thistle and shamrock. The guard has a great age patina.
The ray skin hilt is in excellent condition with a twisted copper wire and two strands of plain copper wire. The hilt's back strap has acanthus style decoration flowing into the stepped pommel with a flattened tang button. The blade is firm in the hilt.
