British WW2 No.4 MkII* bayonet made by the Howard & Bullough Company of Lancashire. Howard and Bullough produced 161,026 of the No.4 Mk II* spike bayonet between 1942 and 1943.

This bayonet was chrome plated for parade and ceremonial purposes and is in good condition. Plated ceremonial No.4 bayonets were usually issued to Guards or a regiment’s colour party and the plating was done post production at unit level. The plating has dulled and there are scratches and wear consistent with age and use.

The socket block is stamped with the pattern designation above the maker’s mark, “H&B.” The War Department arrow is stamped to the left of the maker’s mark.

The plated steel scabbard is the No.4 Mk I type and is marked accordingly on the throat along with the maker’s (Vanden Plas Engineering) dispersal code S286 and a broad arrow stamp.
