As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
British East India Co. 1771 Windus Socket Bayonet. #2608009
This British East India Company (E.I.C.) bayonet was used with the 1771 “Windus” Pattern Brown Bess musket. In 1771, Lieutenant Colonel Edward Windus simplified the manufacturing processes of the Brown Bess musket to facilitate its manufacture by the British East India Company. The Windus pattern bayonet was developed for use with the simplified musket. The musket itself was subsequently adopted by Britain in 1793 as the India Pattern Brown Bess.
This bayonet is easily distinguished from its British used counterparts by the external spring catch that is screwed to the front of the muzzle ring. The E.I.C. spring on this bayonet is of the earlier type with a more pointed end than those of later production, as are the squared shoulders at the back of the blade.
The 398mm blade has a broad, flat face and deep fullers on either side of the medial ridge on the underside. The forte is deeply stamped with a spade-like symbol. The stamp above is illegible. The socket of the bayonet is 95mm long and has an internal muzzle diameter of approximately 23mm. The top of the socket is engraved with the maker’s name, GOFF. Daniel Goff was an E. I. C. contractor from 1780 and this bayonet dates to between 1780 and 1803. The total length of the bayonet is 515mm
This bayonet is in good condition and is bright and free of rust. Repeated polishing during the course of its working life (and since) have worn the markings.
This is a good example of a rare British East India Company Windus musket bayonet that will have seen service during the late 18th Century.
