This American made P1913 bayonet was produced by Remington during WW1 for use by British forces.

The excellent 433mm blade has a deep single fuller on both sides and a rounded spine. The blade shows minor manufacturing scratches and scabbard wear.

The blued ricasso is stamped with the pattern date of 1913, the production date of ‘8 ’17 (August 1917) and the Remington maker’s mark. The obverse ricasso bears a British broad arrow, crown and inspectors stamp that have been crossed out. US – United States has been stamped below the struck-out markings. This indicates that although the bayonet was produced under British contract, it was not taken into British service and was retained by the US. Given the excellent condition of the bayonet, it is likely that it was never issued and the removal of the muzzle ring suggests that it was sold out of service.

The cross guard and pommel are nicely blued. The wooden hilt scales are in good condition with a great patina and the press-stud locking mechanism works.

The bayonet is complete with its second pattern American issue leather scabbard, which is also in excellent condition. The throat and chape retain their original finish and the green leather is firm and undamaged with the stitching intact and strong.

The leather is stamped with US inspectors initials, “E.J.B” and “GK.” The scabbard’s steel throat and chape are stamped “GF” by the maker, the General Fireproofing Company of Youngstown, Ohio.

This is an interesting late war example that looks as if it was officially deactivated by removing the muzzle ring. The blade and scabbard are in excellent condition.
