Iconic British WW1 Pattern 1907 bayonet made in November, 1918 by the Wilkinson Sword company. The bayonet is marked to the Royal Air Force. The R.A.F were officially established in January 1918. This is a rare, early RAF issued bayonet.

The 436mm, single edged blade has a long narrow fuller and rounded spine. The edge was service sharpened. The blade is in excellent condition. The ricasso retains its original blueing and is marked with George V crowned cypher over the pattern date 1907 and the date of manufacture 11 ’18 below which is stamped Wilkinson.

The obverse ricasso bears the War Department broad arrow, bend test stamp and three Enfield inspection and acceptance stamps.

The crosspiece, muzzle ring and pommel retain their original blued finish and are in excellent condition. The press-stud catch is in perfect working order. The grip scales are in good condition with mild age and use related staining. The scales are held firmly in place by two original screws.

The pommel is stamped with the unit markings, R.A.F over 1, and the weapon/issue number 1735. This marking is repeated on the underneath of the beaked pommel. An earlier unit marking 1 S.D. over 3 and the weapon number 21 has been cancelled out.

The bayonet is complete with its R.A.F marked scabbard. The 1917 dated leather scabbard has a round frog stud. The scabbard is in very good condition. The leather is stamped with HGR17 and the War Department arrow, Enfield inspection mark and date stamp for 1917. The steel locket and chape retain their original blueing and are stamped with Enfield and arrow marks. The throat of the locket is stamped R.A.F.

This is an excellent example of the iconic British World War One bayonet with rare, early Royal Air Force markings and matching scabbard.
