Iconic British WW1 Pattern 1907 bayonet made in 1917 by the Wilkinson Sword company and unit marked to the 2nd Battalion The King’s Own …?

The 434mm single edged blade has a long narrow fuller and rounded spine. The edge was factory sharpened. The blade is in great condition and retains its original matt grey finish. The ricasso is marked with George V crowned royal cypher over the pattern date 1907 and the date of manufacture 12 ’17 below which is stamped Wilkinson Pall Mall. The ricasso bears a second date stamp, ’24 beside an Enfield crowned inspection stamp.

The obverse ricasso bears a Broad Arrow stamp, a bend test stamp and a Wilkinson factory inspectors mark. In addition, there are two Enfield inspection and acceptance stamps and a date stamp for 1926.

The crosspiece, muzzle ring and pommel retain their original blued finish with minor wear. The press-stud catch is in perfect working order. The pommel is stamped with the designation, 2 KOMR over the weapon number 918. This could be a colonial unit, such as the King’s Own Malta Regiment but I am not sure. The grip scales are in good condition. The scales are held firmly in place by two original screws.

The bayonet is complete with its leather scabbard with a teardrop frog stud. The scabbard is in good condition. The steel locket and chape have very shallow pitting. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.

This is a good example of a unit marked British World War One 1907 pattern bayonet made by the Wilkinson Sword Company.
