British WW1 Pattern 1907 bayonet made in 1918 by Sanderson & Newbould.
The 432mm single-edged blade has a long narrow fuller and rounded spine. The edge was factory sharpened. The blade is in very good condition with its original matt grey finish. The ricasso retains its original blueing and is marked with a partly struck George V crown over the pattern date 1907 and the date of manufacture 9 ’18 below which is stamped Sanderson.
The obverse ricasso bears a bend test stamp, War Department arrow and three Enfield inspection and acceptance stamps (one over-stamped). There is also an additional date stamp for 1924 and a corresponding reissue/inspection stamp.
The crosspiece, muzzle ring and pommel retain their original blued finish and are in very good condition. The press-stud catch is in perfect working order. The grip scales are in good condition.
The pommel is stamped with the unit marking of the 6th Battalion of the Royal West Kent Regiment above the issue/weapon number 203.
The bayonet is complete with its leather scabbard with a teardrop frog stud. The scabbard is fitted with a British 1937 pattern khaki webbing frog, suggesting that the bayonet was re-issued for Home Guard use during WW2. The frog is in excellent condition and is faintly marked on the back.
The scabbard is in very good condition. The steel locket and the chape retain their original blueing. The stitching is intact and strong and the bayonet sheathes smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
This is a great example of a Sanderson made P1907 bayonet marked to the Royal West Kent Regiment.
