The ricasso retains its blueing and is marked with a crown and E.R (Edward VII) over the pattern date 1907 and the date of manufacture 7 ’09 (July 1909) below which is stamped “EFD.” The obverse ricasso bears the War Department broad arrow, bend test stamp, three Enfield inspection stamps and the letter “N” denoting Royal Navy service.

The hooked quillon cross guard, muzzle ring and pommel retain their blued finish are in excellent condition with a crisp working press stud locking mechanism. The wooden grip scales are in very good condition with age related wear and staining. The scales are held firmly in place by the two original screws.

The bayonet is complete with its No.1 Mk ll brown leather scabbard with a teardrop stud. The scabbard is in very good condition with age and use related marks and wear to the original finish. The leather and stitching are sound and the body of the scabbard is stamped with a War Department arrow, two crowned EFD inspection marks and the letter “N.” The opposite side of the seam is stamped with the makers’ mark for Hepburn, Gale & Ross Ltd of London and the date ‘09. The locket and chape retain their blued finish. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.

This is an excellent example of an iconic and rare British hooked quillon 1907 bayonet and matching scabbard with scarce Royal Navy service markings.
