18th Century Knights Broadsword Cross Hilt Broadsword 1796 infantry officer broadsword British 18th Century Robe Sword #4 British 18th Century Robe Sword #5 British 18th Century Robe Sword #6 British 18th Century Robe Sword #7 British 18th Century Robe Sword #8 British 18th Century Robe Sword #9
This rare and interesting English Robe Sword dates to the 18th Century.

The 770mm double-edged broadsword blade has a lenticular cross-section with a short central fuller beginning after the ricasso. The unadorned blade is well balanced and the last quarter of the blade is sharp with a needle-like spear point. The blade is in very good condition, mostly bright with small areas of tarnish, mainly towards the hilt.

The gilded urn shaped pommel is strikingly similar to that on the 1796 infantry spadroon, as it the twisted copper and brass wire bound hilt. The urn pommel retains most of its original gilding. The crosspiece has wear to the gilding. The blade is firm in the hilt.

The sword is complete with its original faded velvet covered wooden scabbard with gilded brass mounts. The scabbard is in good condition and most of the original gilding remains on the throat and chape. The sword sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
