As you know, President Trump has decided that all USA citizens must pay import taxes on any items bought from overseas. He has withdrawn the $800 pre-tax allowance on imports and has also cancelled the exemption for antiques.
The amount of import tax payable is dependent on the country of manufacture of the item, NOT where it was bought/imported from.
For example,
The tariff on UK made items is 10% of the total amount, including the shipping fee.
On items manufactured in mainland Europe, the tariff is 15%.
Some countries incur a much higher percentage.
President Trump has insisted that these fees be paid BEFORE the item is imported, or the parcel will be refused entry into the US.
This basically means that Bygone Blades has to collect the US import tax from you and submit it to the carrier, who in turn pay the US customs.
After you have made your purchase, you will receive a separate invoice for the new import tax specific to the item purchased. This will need to be paid before your purchase is shipped.
British 1887 Mk III Martini-Henry Sword Bayonet. Wilkinson 1889. #2608010
This 1887 Mk III pattern bayonet was made in 1889 by the Wilkinson Sword Company.
The 467mm un-fullered, single-edged blade has a flat spine and terminates in a spear point with a 200mm upper false edge. The forte of the blade bears a crowned VR cypher and the manufacture year of 1889, below which is stamped the maker’s details, Wilkinson Sword Company. London. The obverse bears the War Department WD and arrow and a Wilkinson inspection stamp. An additional date of 1900, along with the designation; F. A. 8 (Field Artillery, 8th Battery?) and a sold out of service mark are also present. The spine is stamped with two Wilkinson inspection stamps.
The blade is in very good condition and was service sharpened, probably for deployment to South Africa for the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902).
The steel cross guard with stepped muzzle ring is bright and rust free as is the pommel. The press button catch is in good working order. The knurled leather grip scales are in very good condition and secured by two rivets. The grip scales bear Wilkinson inspection stamps. The pommel is stamped with a cancelled issue number.
The original black leather and steel mounted scabbard is in good condition. The leather is worn and has lost its original finish but remains strong. The stitching is intact and tight. The steel locket and chape bear British War Department ownership stamps. Interestingly, the chape also bears the letters; CFF, an Indian Government Stores mark and date of ‘00. The bayonet sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.
This is a very good example of a scarce Mk III pattern 1887 Martini-Henry bayonet with some interesting markings.
