This interesting spear originates from East Africa although its exact tribal origins are unknown it is possibly from the Luo people of western Kenya.
The hand forged spear head dates from the 19th Century and is etched on the collar/socket with a geometric pattern. It is probable (and quite usual) that the spears’ haft is a later replacement. The haft has a nice honey patina.
The spear head measures 16.5 inches / 42 cm in total length and is 2.25 inches / 5.5 cm wide.
The iron foot of the spear is 23.25 inches / 59 cm long.
The spear has a total length of 62.75 inches / 159.5 cm.
