This is a great example of a late 19th Century Burmese Dha.

The heavy, 395mm blade has a very sharp single edge. The bevelled spine is 7.4mm thick at the shoulder with a distal taper down to 0.8mm at the point. The blade is 26mm at the forte, widening to 31.4mm before the hatchet point.

The sharp blade is in great condition with faint scratches along the blade consistent with use.

The blade is held firmly in its wooden hilt. The hilt is wrapped with platted grass or plant fibre and has a copper bolster and pommel cap. The pommel cap is decorated with a flower pattern and beaded edges.

The sword is complete with its wooden scabbard. The scabbard is in good condition and is decorated with bands of woven plant fibre and finished with a copper drag. A faded green cord is wrapped around the scabbard and would have been used to “wear” the sword. The sword sheathes and draws smoothly and is held firmly within the scabbard.

This is a great example of a turn of the century Burmese Dha.
