This Heavy Cavalry sabre was probably made in Solingen, Germany although the maker’s mark is now un-readable. As the vast majority of these swords were German made it’s a reasonably safe assumption.
The 34.5 inch / 88 cm curved blade is in almost mint condition and bears a worn maker’s stamp on the ricasso with a part struck inspection stamp on the reverse. The formidable blade is 31 mm wide with a fighting edge that shows signs of use.
The heavy duty steel guard has lost its original nickel plating but is bright and clean with no rust or tarnish. The hilt retains its original leather grip and brass wire.
This is a very impressive sword.
