This P1845 Royal Navy cutlass has a sheet steel half basket hilt, ribbed iron grip and a 730mm, heavy single edged blade. The blade has a flat spine and a broad single fuller on both sides and is marked with the British War Department arrow.
The blade shows signs of heavy fighting use all along its edge which is still sharp. The blade has an all-over salt and pepper patina and the original leather washer is present.
The cast iron hilt and guard have a great old iron colouration and are rust free with traces of old paint remaining.
This is an above average example of an early Victorian Naval cutlass.
